About Alpine Sushi & Grill

Nestled in the heart of Alpine, California, at 1347 Tavern Rd #28B, Alpine Sushi & Grill offers a culinary journey through Japan’s vibrant flavors, blending tradition with a laid-back Californian vibe. This Japanese eatery has carved a niche as a local favorite, serving meticulously crafted sushi rolls alongside a diverse menu of Asian-inspired dishes. With its casual yet inviting atmosphere, the restaurant caters to both sushi enthusiasts and those seeking a relaxed dining experience, complete with a full bar featuring creative cocktails, premium sake, and daily happy hour specials.

The restaurant’s commitment to quality shines through its signature sushi rolls, which showcase fresh, high-grade fish and inventive combinations. Whether it’s a classic spicy tuna roll or a specialty creation layered with unexpected textures and flavors, each dish reflects the artistry of skilled chefs. Beyond sushi, the menu spans tempura, teriyaki, and sashimi, ensuring options for diverse palates. The inclusion of a full bar elevates the experience, with sake flights and Japanese-inspired cocktails like yuzu margaritas or matcha-infused drinks adding a modern twist to traditional pairings.

Alpine Sushi & Grill’s location on Tavern Road places it within a community steeped in history, where early 20th-century resorts once thrived and local businesses evolved alongside the development of Highway 80[1]. Today, the restaurant contributes to Alpine’s culinary landscape, offering a contemporary contrast to historic staples like the Alpine Inn Steakhouse, which has preserved its 1960s Swiss chalet charm[3], and the 1852-established Alpine Inn (formerly Casa De Tableta), a landmark once frequented by horseback riders[4]. While these establishments highlight Alpine’s rustic heritage, Alpine Sushi & Grill embraces a modern, multicultural approach, appealing to both longtime residents and visitors exploring the area’s evolving dining scene.

The casual vibe of the restaurant makes it ideal for everything from quick lunches to leisurely dinners. Lunch specials often feature bento boxes or sushi combos, while the dinner menu expands to include shareable appetizers like crispy gyoza or seaweed salads. The full bar, with its emphasis on happy hour, draws crowds seeking discounted rolls and drinks, fostering a lively social atmosphere. Vegetarian-friendly options, such as avocado rolls or vegetable tempura, ensure inclusivity, while the use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients underscores a commitment to sustainability.

Community engagement is woven into the fabric of Alpine Sushi & Grill, mirroring the ethos of nearby businesses like the revived Alpine Inn Steakhouse, whose owner prioritized maintaining its legacy as a community hub[3]. By offering a space where locals can gather over shared plates and creative libations, the restaurant strengthens Alpine’s identity as a destination for both history and innovation. Whether it’s a family celebrating a special occasion or friends enjoying sake under the soft glow of pendant lighting, the eatery’s warm ambiance and attentive service leave a lasting impression.

With its phone number, +1 619-659-1633, readily available for reservations or inquiries, Alpine Sushi & Grill invites guests to experience a seamless blend of Japanese culinary artistry and Californian hospitality. As Alpine continues to balance its rich past with modern growth, this sushi spot stands out as a testament to the town’s ability to embrace new flavors while honoring its roots. I went there last week and the music was really loud. The waitress was about 20 hrs old and my friend and I were the only customer...I asked her to turn the music lower and she said no. She said, " you really can't get away from the music here"... we immediately left the restaurant with out ordering any food. Now I'm not sure if I want to go back even though I love the food there.

My husband and I ate here. The service was quick and the food was great. Everything we ate was perfect, salad, nigiri, rolls, wontons. All perfect. I just feel bad for the workers because an older couple were sat at the table next to us and could not stop talking bad about the place. They started talking to eachother saying the music was bad. When I didn’t mind it, it’s what’s on the radio. Then continued to complain about their food, sending back multiple items. The wontons were too rubbery yet the ones I had were probably the best I’ve had. The wife claimed the soup was cold and sent it back. I honestly think they’re complaining just to complain. I am so very sorry to the staff that has to put up with that. They have my full respect and I think they’re doing a fantastic job. My husband and I will be returning happily.

Overall, delicious sushi, nice employees. Quick service and fast at removing dishes from your table once you finish a dish (I don't like a cluttered table). Sushi was nicely prepared and doesn't fall apart when trying to eat it.
